Canoe Slalom Team Selection Rules for 2023

Paddle Australia has concluded a review procedure following the 2022 Canoe Slalom Team selection process. The review process looked at the 2022 selection procedures, selection guidelines, and 2023 selection occasions. Eligibility & Nomination of Athletes for the 2023 Canoe Slalom Team

Athlete Eligibility

The athletes must fulfill the requirements listed in Paddle Australia’s Selection Procedures Bylaws, which can be found on the Paddle Austtote HERE, to be eligible for the 2023 Team Selection.

Olympic Canoe Slalom Tickets

All nominated athletes who are qualified based on their age will be included in the three (3) ranking lists: Junior, U23, and Senior.

Event Format for the 2023 Canoe Slalom Selection

The following information outlines the format of the 2023 canoe slalom selection event:

Penrith Open, Penrith, New South Wales 11–12 February, JNR, U23, and SNR

All paddlers will complete a total of two (2) runs during the Penri Openrunshese are a Heat run that will either advance to the Final A or Final B. Australian Open, Penrith, New South Wales JNR, U23, and SNR for the period of February 17–19

The Australian Open will be conducted with a minimum by the World Cup tournament progression process. The Heats, which will compete for a spot in either the semifinals or the invitational semifinals, will go first. If necessary, the semi-final will qualify for the final and the invitational final.

Junior Team Selection Policy for 2023

Ranking Point Opportunities

It is exciting to see the bright future of the canoe slalom programrformance program move toward Brisbane 2032, especially after the success of the 2022 Junior Team, where the Canoe Slalom Program returned home with a World Champion in the MCseveralwell as several PBs from other junior team’s athletes.

The 2023 Junior Team Selection policy allows four (4) opportunities to compete for ranking points, with the best two (2) being considered for taking to maintain consistency with the 2022 Junior Team selection procedure.

The following describes the selection trials used to compete for ranking points at the selection competitions:

  • Trial 1a: Penrith Open               Heat 1
  • Trial 1b: Penrith Open              Final Result
  • Trial 2a: AUS Open                   Heat 1
  • Trial 2b: AUS Open                   Final Result

Minimum Performance Standards (MPS)

The MPS is regarded as a crucial step in accomplishing Paddle Australia’s High-Performance aim of continuing performance at benchmark events (BME), and as such, it will stay in the selection philosophy until the next review for the LA 2028 quadrennial.

All team-nominated athletes have a minimum of four (4) and a maximum of five (5) opportunities to make MPS, as specified in previous and current team selection policies.

2023 U23 Team Ranking Point Possibilities Selection Criteria

As in previous years, there are three (3) options to earn ranking points for the U23 Selection policy, with the best two (2) used for selection rankings. These opportunities are described below.

• Penrith Open Final Result from Trial 1b

• Trial 2a: Australian Open Heat 1

• Trial 2b: Minimum Performance Standards for the AUS Open Final Result (MPS)

The MPS is regarded as a crucial step in accomplishing Paddle Australia’s High-Performance aim of continuing performance at benchmark events (BME), and as such, it will stay in the selection philosophy until the next review for the LA 2028 quadrennial.
